I am Amlan Basu, a genuine male poet, novelist, play writer and film script writer born in the year 1963, Kolkata, India. A member of Indian Motion Picture Producers Association ( IMMPA ), Mumbai & Film Craft Federation (FCF), Mumbai. I’ve an acute knowledge in all aspects of film making. I’ve have worked as a Creative Copywriter for the advertising agencies and continuously carving the niche by his intrinsic artistic merit. I’m looking for new assignment or project to working on.My foray into writing began in 1981. I’ve written one short story named “Mahamanab”(The great human) in Bengali language. After that I started off as just an ardent and voracious reader with a great love of word and ideas.

I am a self-proclaimed film teacher, who imbibed the art deeply through self-learning process and attended some film workshop. Also I’ve visited several film-festivals and film seminars. I am an artist whole-heartedly but I’ve to do odd job to maintain my family. That because, I’m working as an Administrative Executive in a bank. I’m nurturing my knowledge by conducting film classes and workshops. I am also learning now. There is no end of learning every aspects of film. I’m promoting my film art by imparting education among new generation to age old. Any serious minded film buff can take the course. Only you have the passion and obsession to do excel. SCREEN PLAYWRITING

1. OVERVIEW OF THE SHOTS - 3 Hrs.
Basic knowledge of various shot sizes of a movie camera.

2. THE BASIC TOOL – 9 Hrs.
Primacy of a story, story structure, dramatic arc, the three act theory, creating characters, point of view, character development, theme, plot, subplot, action, text and subtext, conflict, pitching for story ideas, set up, pay off, voice over, flash back.

3. SCREENPLAY WRITING – I – 15 Hrs.
Standard script writing format, narrative story telling through writing assignment, the development of dramatic structure, character and dialogue, writing script for the short films.

4. SCREENPLAY WRITING – II – 15 Hrs.
Develop your skills in visual story telling through discussion, critiques and exercises. First draft for a feature film.

5. SCREENPLAY WRITING – III – 15 Hrs.
Revision of the first draft, discover plot twist, develop character and explore action, conflict theme, rewriting, criticism and feedback.

6. SCREENPLAY WRITING –IV – 15 Hrs.
Writing of believable dialogue and complex characters through exercises and film clips, explore how to speak volumes without saying a word.

7. JUDGING SCREEN TIME – 3Hrs.
Basic concept, running time-fact film and feature film, shooting time.

FILM DIRECTION

1. DIRECTING THE CAMERA : MISE-EN-SCENE – 30 Hrs.
Standard shot sizes, camera placement, camera angle, camera movement, staging, lens choice, depth of field, selective focus, framing and motion, directing the eye, head room, lead room, the golden third, composing for depth, open and closed frames, visual subtext, visually realizing the movement and the story, point of view.

2. SHOT PLANNING – 6 Hrs.
Story boards, shot lists, floor plans, moving shots, shooting order, optimizing resources.

3. CONTINUITY – 24 Hrs.
Narrative continuity -Character continuity, set-up and pay-off, cause and effect.
Temporal continuity -Matching action, entrance and exits, overlapping action, pace and rhythm, set, hair and wardrobe.
Spatial continuity – Eye-lines, screen direction, 180 degree line, change of lense.
Coverage – Change of shot size and angle.
Invisible editing – Manipulating the audience, Montage – From Eisenstein to MTV

4. DIRECTING – 24 Hrs.
Director’s preparation, research, dramatic breakdown, director as the almighty
decision-maker, prioritizing, organic choices, Mise-en-scene, mood, style.
Theme: Explicit and implicit, film noir, suspense, comedy, working within a
budget / schedule, sacrifice and compromise.

5. AESTHETIC ELEMENTS – 6 Hrs.
Man to man coverage, zone coverage, first person coverage.
( By breaking down scenes from your own scripts.)
